Luan de Beer
The story behind the man..
Born in 1981, in Sandton, JHB, Luan grew up in the suburb of Weltevredenpark , attending Laerskool Fairlands, Hoërskool Florida and Matriculating at Randburg Hoër. He started singing and playing piano at the young age of 6 and during his primary school years, was not only selected to sing in the National Jhb Youth Choir, The school choir, and the Fairlands ‘Kosmos’ choir as a member and soloist, but as a ‘straight–A’ student, he was selected for an exclusive program for gifted children at J.C.E. Jhb at the age of 10 and competed in the ATKV public speaking semi-finals at the age of 11.
During his High-School career Luan achieved the award for Toastmaster of the year, twice, from the SA Toastmasters Public Speaking Program for schools, performed in the Florida and Randburg High School Choirs, the Florida symphonic orchestra, Randburg Cadett Band and won several trophies in national public speaking competitions and the National Beeld Speech Guild Trophy in 1999.
Luan also participated in the National Eisteddfod Performing Arts competition throughout his entire schooling years and received more than 40 Diplomas and several trophies for categories such as Solo/Duet singing, light music, classical, and jazz piano, saxophone, public speaking, dramatized prose, orchestra’s and choirs.
After school Luan decided to pursue a career in medicine and attended the University of Pretoria as a 1st year Med. Sciences student. However, due to financial constraints beyond his control he had to move back to Jhb after his first year of studies, and then applied for a course to become a Homeopathic Doctor at The Wits Technikon Facility. Unfortunately, Luan now had to start to fend for himself and even though he used his talents to find work as a Latin & Ballroom Dance Instructor in the evenings and wedding singer on the weekends, studying a full time medical course and working Half day and weekends just did not coincide - and in mid 2002 Luan realized that neither his work, nor his studies were succeeding no matter how hard he tried, and it was time to move on, and give up his life-long dream of becoming a Professional Pediatrician..
For the next year or so Luan basically tried to start his life from scratch finding work in telesales at a Wellness Project Management company, becoming a Sales Rep for a security company, doing au pair work, teaching Latin as well as Hip Hop dancing and slowly but surely performing more and more at weddings, corporate functions and restaurants as a Singer and Saxophonist.
In July 2003 he took his first step into the Entertainment industry when he was offered work as a professional MC/Promotion Jockey® at PMA, a company supplying MC’s for casino’s and big retail stores, and got his first position as full-time MC for Goldreef City Casino and Makro Strubensvalley.
From 2003 – 2005 Luan worked evenings, weekends and holidays growing himself as an MC and Promotion Jockey, and during the day he furthered his skills in dancing, continuing with his Latin & Ballroom, teaching Hip Hop to his own group of students as well as Aerobic Dance at several Virgin Active clubs. Now, having experience as an MC and Singer, he started finding work as a host for larger corporate functions and events, and moved into the Fashion and Modeling industry by becoming a Compère for Pageants and fashion shows.

During these years Luan was also selected as a Judge for the South African Championships Of Performing Arts 2003 and 2004, and through this competition he discovered his passion for teaching and coaching children in Singing, Dancing and Stage Performance, and started his own coaching programs in Ermelo, Witbank, Ellisras and Johannesburg.
In Mid 2005 Luan joined a Casting Agency called Legends, and started going for auditions and castings in the television and musical industry, and in November 2005, after only his second musical audition, got selected to be an ensemble member of the highly successful West-end rock musical, WE WILL ROCK YOU, in which he performed as the ‘Paul Mcartney Rebel’ at theatres in JHB, Cape town and Durban during 2006.

During 2007 – 2011 Luan decided to focus on his solo career and broke into the entertainment industry with a bang… Launching his own successful Gauteng Talent Search competition in 2007 called STARS IN THE MAKING was simply the beginning. He was selected as the SAX PLAYER for the EGOLI DES”S WEDDING 2007 as well as to appear in several TV adverts and a for a guest appearance in a south African sitcom, ’erfsondes’… Performed at several of the top wedding and corporate function venues in the country… Became the preferred MC to launch the new Silverstar Casino in the west rand of Gauteng as well as host all promotions for Sun City Casino and several conferences.. and during 2009/2010 landed the voice over contract to be the Afrikaans and English voice for all Cashbuild Radio and TV adverts as well as to travel across Africa as the program director and entertainer for all Cashbuild store opening Art at Heart events…
